We discovered that metrodate.com has decided to convert to a free online dating service just at the end of 2008, but we decided to give it some time before we launched our review of the dating service so we could test the service properly.

Their member database does not rival some of its paid competitors yet, but we don't think that's such a big deal considering you can sign up for free dating.
The signing up and matchmaking process
Signing up for Metrodate.com is easy, you just have to fill out some basic details about yourself. Their search is quick and easy, and give you matches in a couple of clicks.
From the search page you can view profiles, send messages and add to your favorites so you can access profiles you are interested in at a later stage.
In order to send a message, you have to upload a picture of yourself - which also gives you great exposure. They even have a slideshow of recently uploaded photos on their front page - so make sure you get your best frock and smile on!
Their photos section has a great categorisation feature where you can get some ideas about what photos to upload. Their categories include: Me, Family and Friends, Where I Live, My Pets, My Ride, My Tattoos, Anything Else and Adult Content.
The rest of the site
Metrodate also have a dating chat room feature where you can interact with other members online. This is a great way to engage with your fellow daters. To use this feature you'll have to have a photo uploaded, which we thought was great as it quickly enables you to find matches your are drawn towards. Their chat rooms section is divided into a main chat room and adult which hopefully keeps the naught talk separated from the more conventional daters.
Metrodate.com also have a groups section which emphasises the community feel of the website and is another great way to boost the interactivity with other members with the same interests as you. After all you're singing up to dating sites to find people with the same interests as you?
Finally Metro date offers a city guide where you can read more about events, restaurants, travel and discussions about the specific cities offerings. If you want to read even further they have a dating articles section run by Dr. Debbie which is a licensed psychologist. There you can even ask questions and of course read up on dating and relationship related articles.

Free online dating is a great way to take your first steps into the online dating scene. Beware that with free dating services you can get dishonest people who are their for all the wrong reasons.
